The in-person session will be held at Mississippi State University (MSU) in Starkville, Mississippi. MSU is a public, land-grant university whose mission is to provide access and opportunity to students from all sectors of the state’s diverse population, as well as from other states and countries, and to offer excellent programs of teaching, research, and service. MSU Libraries, an excellent research library, has recently developed a digital humanities working group to expand DH resources, training, and capacity at MSU.
At MSU, we will convene in the ELI and Giles Electronic Classrooms located in Mitchell Memorial Library, which is equipped with 30 participant computers (installed with necessary software for the institute). Mitchell Memorial Library is home of the Charles H. Templeton, Sr. Music Museum, the John Grisham Room and the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library.
Lodging:
Lodging is available at Comfort Inn & Suites, 801 Russell St, Starkville, MS 39759. (Hotel registration allows access to the university gym.) Stipends provided to participants include lodging costs.
Transportation:
The closest airport to MSU and Starkville is the Golden Triangle Regional Airport. There is a free shuttle from the airport to set locations in Starkville (no service on Sundays), as well as taxis and car rentals. There are several other airports in the region, usually about a 2-3 hours drive:
Birmingham International Airport – BHM
Jackson International Airport – JAN
Memphis International Airport – MEM
In Starkville, attendees can walk (about 3/4 miles), drive, or take free shuttles to Mitchell Memorial Library. For those with cars, free campus parking passes will be available. More information about the free shuttle that runs routes on and off MSU’s campus is available here.
