Participant Information

Technology

The in-person institute will meet in a computer classroom, with the software used pre-installed on the PCs. Participants are welcome to bring their own PC laptops with the software pre-installed (a list will be posted in advance of the institute).   As the schedule allows, the faculty and directors can try to troubleshoot any issues.

Stipends

The institute will welcome 22 participants, with 2 from MSU.  The institute is free for selected participants, and those attending will receive a stipend.  Stipends are provided to cover costs (travel, lodging, and meals).  Since MSU participants will not require travel or lodging, their stipend is lower.

Conditions of Award

Participants are expected to engage fully and professionally in the work of the institute, both in-person and virtually.  The work is paced to allow participants the time and space to both learn new skills and thoughtfully incorporate them into a classroom or workshop.

In advance of the institute, participants are expected to complete the few readings and post (to a institute-participants-only forum) excerpts from their application about goals and interests.

During the in-person institute, participants may not undertake professional assignments unrelated to the institute.

Participants are expected to attend virtual sessions, which will be scheduled to accommodate as many people as possible and also recorded. In the infrequent case when participants cannot attend, they will be expected to listen to the recording.

At the conclusion of the institute, participants are expected to submit an online evaluation, and also to deposit the course or workshop module, assignment, or syllabus that they developed in into the institute’s open-access repository.

Those who, for any reason, do not complete the full tenure of the project or fail to meet these expectations will receive a reduced stipend.
